Just
prior to the start of the 2008 harvest, we all experienced a
hard hitting, big shift in the economy - So hard and fast
that we were all focused on it together, no matter what else
we were doing at the time.even if what we were doing was
preparing to start picking grapes and giving life to a new
vintage! But as with every challenge there can often come a
champion - We started making the Barn D'Or wines 6 years
ago, to create some wines that always over-delivery in
quality and shock with the affordable price.
Long story short, some growers I had been chatting with
about trying some Pinot Noir from their vineyards called
looking to make sure the grapes had a good home after things
looked more uncertain in the world. One grower in particular
offered that fruit to me at very attractive price, which I
have now crafted into something delicious, and now pass on
that value to you! As I stood in the vineyard the morning we
were picking these grapes I began to set some goals: make
the wine as though it will be the finest wine we have ever
crafted, but keep a tight reign on the how and why, to try
and get the most in aroma and flavor.
There is only a very small amount of this wine but it is
truly a prize. Sensual aromas of true Russian River
character - bright red cherries and rose petal, then soft
and silky on the palate with that cherry core enhanced by
layers of spice. Although not quite the champion of our
Estate Pinot Noir, it can take all challengers at even
higher prices.
